Because Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning are weighted the same (20% each), the calculator only needs their combined value, which is your total cognitive score minus your VR score. That is why entering your total and your VR score is enough to work out your WSU weighted score.

How the WSU weighted score works

Most universities look at your total cognitive score, but Western Sydney University builds its own score out of 900 by weighting the three cognitive subtests differently. Verbal Reasoning counts for 60%, Decision Making for 20% and Quantitative Reasoning for 20%. Situational Judgement is left out entirely.

Because DM and QR are weighted the same, this calculator only needs two numbers from you: your total cognitive score and your VR score. Your combined DM and QR is simply your total minus your VR, which is all the formula needs. In practice the weighted score works out to 0.4 × VR + 0.2 × total.

The heavy VR weighting means your overall percentile can be misleading for WSU. A strong VR score lifts your weighted score well above what your total alone would suggest, and a weak VR drags it down. If WSU is your target, VR is the subtest worth the most preparation time. How WSU uses the weighted score

Once you clear the ATAR threshold, your ATAR plays no further part. WSU sends roughly 450 interview invitations each year, decided only by your weighted UCAT score. The thresholds differ by applicant category, which is why this tool asks where you live.

GWS applicants live in the Greater Western Sydney area and have the lowest threshold.
Non-GWS NSW applicants live elsewhere in NSW and need a higher weighted score.
Interstate applicants apply from a metro area outside NSW, where places are limited and the bar is much higher.

After interviews, the final offer is based 75% on your interview performance and 25% on your weighted UCAT score.
